HELP!

Does anyone know anything about composting bins? Perhaps ones with worms? Even better if they deliver an entire system to your door with instructions and everything ready to go...

I've been putting our uneaten portions into the yard waste bin for the last two weeks and Jeff has refused to let this continue. I'll admit the enormous furry lump of mold at the bottom of our can was enough to scare even me off. So, what do I do? I want to help the environment, perhaps get some nutrient rich soil, and prevent our kitchen garbage can from getting unbearably stinky....but I need something easy that works. Any suggestions? Please, anyone?

A point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated over here!

ooh, thanks guys! I really like the worm idea, so I'll talk it over with Jeff. It looks like this one was featured on Martha Stewart...so you know you can't go wrong ;)

The Seattle Tilth offers helpful resources & short day classes for those interested in learning about composting & vermaculture (worms). Check them out--their HQ is in the Good Shepherd Center, just up the street from Jeff's work.

We have been dumping in our yard waste too.... Sorry I can't be of more help but I got some great ideas from the other posters. Thanks!

kyle won't let me recycle our food waste because I always forget to take it out & the container gets nasty. But I figure that even in a dump it will decompose really fast, its the other stuff I'm more worried about...

He won't let me have a worm bin either cause he thinks its gross. Spoilsport.

We used to just put out all our veggie/fruit waste in an old wooden potting container and cover it w/ leaves, grass, newspapers, even coffee filters, whatever...and kept it moist (not soggy), and we had awesome, black dirt! You can add eggshells, but NOTHING meat or dairy or it's nasty.
I just remembered, my dad actually just throws stuff under the leaves behind some of their fruit trees and the trees are really healthy. Oh, and he accidentally grew a pumpkin vine once.:)
You never know what might happen!;)
