14 Weeks of Motherhood

Well, it's been 14 weeks of motherhood today and I can honestly say nothing could have prepared me for this....it's life changing (talk about an overhaul) to say the least.

I'm constantly overjoyed and often overwhelmed by this responsibility God has granted me in caring for our amazing little boy nearly 24-7 (don't worry, someone is always taking care of him, but a girl has to get a break every once in awhile). I'm also fully aware of how truly blessed Jeff and I are to have such dear family and friends who have been more than generous with their time and energy helping us raise our son- thank you! It does take a village and I feel confident Wesley will know he is loved by many.

To all those ladies who have yet to have their first born...I'd say savor the time you have with your husband, but realistically you can't even begin to know how to do that until all of your attention seems to be focused on your small child and all you seem to talk about are dirty diapers, sleeping habits, and how much/often they eat. BUT I will say that now that we're 14 weeks in we're finally over the hump! I feel like a normal human being again (despite the plugged ducts, lingering baby weight and psoriasis I was recently diagnosed with). Wes has a more consistent sleeping schedule and Jeff and I are able to spend more quality time together. It also doesn't hurt that I'm now showering on a regular basis. There is hope!

I sure do love our little family.

(As I type this Jeff is upstairs with Wes and the baby monitor is still on...he's singing "the itsy bitsy spider" and asking Wes, in a sing-song voice, if he likes it and then answers for him, "yeah, that's fun!"- a baby does wonderful things to Daddys)

Whatever Jenny, I see you are wearing earrings in one shot, if you have time to put earrings on....
ha ha ha, I am COMPLETELY kidding of course. I love what you wrote, and I suppose now i should go take my own shower while Daddy entertains the kids....

what's a husband?

Just kidding...I think I know what they are. But even though I think I can imagine what it must be like to have one I realize that I don't know much. I'm definitely excited about the idea...but I think I better figure out what dating is first. It's so great to have such loving examples of husband/wife relationships in my life...I am taking extensive mental and written notes.

Jenny, you're so great that I think I'll come live with you for a spell.

That is the cutest photo of you kissing Wes! I actually had a dream on Saturday that I was holding Wes, it was very sweet. But then you called and said you were at Wild Waves with Callie and Jocelyn, and I was sad I wasn't invited. But I was still happy to be holding Wes. Can't wait to do so very soon! We'll be in Seattle in about a month. Woo hoo.

You kissing Wes is the cutest photo ever!

I saw a couple of babies dressed up so nicely in Venice last weekend...I thought how Wes would look cute dressed up in the same way!

what a wonderful post Jenny! I love how you write about how motherhood has changed things, it's so true that we had no idea what was coming huh? My mother in law always says that she can't even remember a time before Andrew...I feel the same about my children...what was I doing/where was I going/what was I thinking...all before I was a mother? It gets a whole lot easier as the time goes by and you get more sleep and when that fog is lifted you're truly amazed at how far you've come...
